Poetry -
Today students made their first attempts at writing poetry. I initially wanted to find out what they knew.
These are the things they knew about poetry:
1. It can have rhyming words
2. It can be real or make believe
3. It can be like a story
4. It can be like a song
5. You express what is around you in words
6. You express your thoughts in words

We talked about choosing words that describe what you might see, what you might feel, think, wonder, or like about your topic. We talked about trying to capture the reader's attention by using words that would paint a picture in the mind of the reader.
Here are our first attempts at poetry.
